Antelopes are herbivores which eat grass and seeds. Most of the species lives in the grassland, mountains, desert and wetland. The name of antelope is derived from the Greek word Anthropos it means “flower” and ops means “eye”.

Facts of Antelopes

  1. Among more than 90 species of antelope, 25 species are endangered due to hunting.
  2. The Eland is the largest antelope species in the world which grows up to 6 feet tall and weight up to 1450 pounds.
  3. Most species lives in Asia, Africa, and North America.
  4. Royal antelope is the smallest species, which can grow as height as rabbit.
  5. Antelope have very strong horns that never replace forever and grow in entire life.
  6. 6. Some species horns are very tall, it can grow up to 5 feet in length.
  7. Antelope can run very fast at a maximum speed of 43 miles per hour.
  8. They have the capacity to live up to 20 years, but in wild antelopes live for 10 years.
  9. Most of the antelope are in brown and red in color.
  10. Females have a capacity to carry one calf and it comes out in the world from its mother’s womb in eight months.
  11. Antelope has four long legs which help to run very fast.
  12. They always go with the modest group, which contain of 7 to 10 antelope.
  13. The world second largest antelope is kudzu. It reaches up to 1.2 m at shoulder height and weight as much 270 kg.
  14. The horns of antelope are high in medicinal value.
  15. In some species, males only have horns.
